Gospel High School Rugby Team Aims for Glory in Historic Semi-Final Showdown

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team is fueled by self-belief as they progress through the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition. This was highlighted by GHS principal Iliesa Parker in an interview with SUNsports.

In a surprising turn of events, GHS pulled off an impressive upset against the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School, winning 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. “Our coaches have been addressing certain areas that need improvement as we prepare for the semi-finals,” Parker stated. He expressed concern about some players dealing with minor injuries, hoping they will recover in time for Saturday’s match.

Parker praised his team’s performance against RKS, marking a historic moment for GHS as they advance to the semi-finals for the first time in any grade. “The team enjoys strong support from parents, alumni, and the school management,” he noted.

He also highlighted the quality of coaching guiding the team, emphasizing the importance of discipline both in school and during training. The players are excited about the opportunity to play in a stadium for the first time on Saturday against a strong opponent like Marist, whom they have not faced this season.

“We are truly honored to compete against a champion team like Marist, who are also the defending champions,” Parker added. He encouraged all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors—pink, white, and blue—and to come out in large numbers to support the team. Parker concluded by wishing good luck to all participating schools in the semi-finals.
