Gospel High School Rugby Team Aims for Glory in Historic Semi-Final!

Self-belief has been the key factor driving the Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team in their pursuit of the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This insight was shared by GHS principal Iliesa Parker in an interview with SUNsports.

GHS achieved a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. “Our coaches have been focusing on a few areas for improvement in preparation for the semi-finals,” Parker remarked. However, he noted concerns over some players dealing with minor injuries and expressed hope for their recovery before Saturday’s match.

Parker praised the team for their impressive performance against RKS, highlighting that it marks GHS’s first appearance in the Deans semi-final competition across any grade, making history for the school. He emphasized the strong support system the team benefits from, including parents, alumni, and school management.

Additionally, Parker acknowledged the exceptional coaching staff guiding the team and stressed the importance of discipline both in school and during games. The players are particularly excited about the opportunity to play in a stadium for the first time this Saturday.

He mentioned the chance to compete against a champion team like Marist, which they have not faced this season. “We are truly honored to play against a champion team like Marist, who are also the defending champions,” he said.

Parker also called on all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s pink, white, and blue colors on Saturday. “I encourage Gospel High fans to come out in large numbers to support the boys. I also wish good luck to all the other schools in the semi-finals.”
