Gospel High School Makes History in Deans Trophy Semi-Finals!

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team is propelled by self-belief as they progress in the Vodafone Deans Trophy tournament. This was highlighted by GHS principal Iliesa Parker during an interview with SUNsports.

Gospel High School achieved a significant upset by defeating the heavily favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 during the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff has been focusing on areas needing improvement ahead of the semi-finals, expressing concern about some players dealing with minor injuries. He is hopeful they will recover in time for Saturday’s match.

Parker praised his players for their exceptional performance against RKS, mentioning that this marks GHS’s first appearance in the Deans semi-final competition across any grade, thus making history for the school. He credited the team’s success to a strong support system, including parents, alumni, and school management.

He acknowledged the dedication of the coaching staff and urged players to maintain discipline both in school and on the field while concentrating on their preparations. The players are excited about the prospect of playing at a stadium for the first time on Saturday.

Parker expressed enthusiasm about facing a distinguished team like Marist, the defending champions, whom they have not encountered this season. He encouraged all Gospel High supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on Saturday.

He invited fans to come out in large numbers to back the team and extended best wishes to all other schools participating in the semi-finals.
