Gospel High School Makes History in Deans Trophy Semi-Finals!

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has relied on self-belief throughout their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey, according to GHS principal Iliesa Parker in an interview with SUNsports.

GHS achieved a significant upset in the competition by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff has been focused on several areas for improvement as the team prepares for the semi-finals. “Our main concern is some players are dealing with minor injuries, and we hope they can recover by Saturday,” he stated.

Parker praised the team’s performance against RKS, highlighting that this marks the first time GHS has reached the Deans semi-finals in any grade, making history for the school. “The team has strong support from parents, alumni, and school management,” he added.

He expressed gratitude for having a competent coaching staff leading the team and emphasized the importance of discipline both in school and during training. The players are excited to compete in the stadium for the first time on Saturday and are eager to face a championship team like Marist, whom they have not encountered this season.

“We are honored to play against the defending champions, Marist,” Parker said. He also encouraged GHS rugby supporters to wear the school colors of pink, white, and blue this Saturday. “I invite all Gospel High fans to come out in numbers and support the boys. I also wish good luck to all other schools competing in the semi-finals.”
