Gospel High School has advanced to its first ever Vodafone Super Deans semi-final following an impressive performance in the under-15 quarter-finals held yesterday. The school, located in Samabula, secured a thrilling 12-7 victory over Ratu Kadavulevu School at Bidesi Park in Suva.
Gospel’s journey has been akin to a fairytale, having risen from the zone rankings to finish third, endured a challenging playoffs match in Labasa, and now preparing for the semi-finals next weekend.
Head coach Epineri Koroiveibau commented on the team’s preparations, stating, “We prepared well for the past two weeks. After returning from Labasa, we focused on playing clean and hard rugby. Transitioning from tier 2 to tier 1, overcoming the playoffs—now, we are ready for the semi-finals.”
This marks a significant milestone for Gospel as they navigate unfamiliar territory. Koroiveibau added, “We understand that reaching the Deans quarters and semis is part of RKS’s tradition, but we encouraged our boys that they could achieve the same with dedication, hard work, and enjoyment.”
The support from the school, parents, and alumni has been tremendous, and Koroiveibau expressed gratitude to the coaching staff for their efforts in helping the players perform well against RKS.
In other under-15 matches, Queen Victoria School triumphed over Natabua High School with a score of 12-0, Suva Grammar School dominated Holy Cross College 37-5, and Marist Brothers High School edged out Sigatoka Methodist 17-13.
