Gospel High School secured a spot in its first-ever Vodafone Super Deans semi-final following a strong performance in the under-15 quarter-finals. The team, based in Samabula, achieved a narrow victory over Ratu Kadavulevu School, winning 12-7 in a closely contested match at Bidesi Park in Suva.
This marks an impressive journey for Gospel High, which has progressed through the ranks, finishing third in their zone and overcoming a challenging playoff in Labasa. They are set to compete in the semi-finals next weekend.
Head coach Epineri Koroiveibau expressed pride in the team’s preparation, stating, “We prepared well for the past two weeks. We went to Labasa, came back, and just played clean and hard rugby. We started in tier 2, moved up to tier 1, went through the playoffs, and now we are here in the semis next week.”
This achievement represents a significant milestone for Gospel High as they navigate new territory in competitive rugby. Koroiveibau emphasized the importance of hard work and enjoyment, saying, “We know this is part of RKS’s culture, but we told our boys that they can also achieve this as long as we train hard and enjoy ourselves.”
The support from the school, parents, and alumni has been tremendous, with Koroiveibau acknowledging the dedication of the coaching staff in preparing the team for such a high-stakes match.
In other under-15 matches, Queen Victoria School triumphed over Natabua High School with a score of 12-0, Suva Grammar School defeated Holy Cross College 37-5, and Marist Brothers High School won against Sigatoka Methodist with a score of 17-13.
