The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team is driven by self-belief as they continue their journey in the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This was highlighted by GHS principal Iliesa Parker during an interview with SUNsports.
Recently, GHS achieved a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff has been focusing on areas that require improvement in preparation for the semi-finals. He expressed concern over some players dealing with minor injuries and hopes they recover in time for Saturday’s match.
Parker praised his team for their historic achievement, stating it is the first time GHS has reached the Deans semi-final in any grade, marking a milestone for the school. He acknowledged the strong support from parents, former students, and school management.
The principal also expressed gratitude for the capable coaching staff leading the team. He encouraged players to maintain discipline both in school and on the field, emphasizing the importance of staying focused during their preparation.
The players are excited about the prospect of playing at the stadium for the first time on Saturday, where they will face off against Marist, a champion team they have not encountered this season. Parker conveyed the honor of competing against Marist, who are the defending champions.
He invited all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on match day and called on fans to come out in full force to cheer for the boys. Parker also extended best wishes to all the other schools participating in the semi-finals.
