Russia is demanding an astonishing sum from Google, reportedly surpassing 2 undecillion rubles (2 followed by 36 zeros), which equates to approximately $20 decillion or $20 billion trillion trillion. This remarkable figure dwarfs the entire global economy, which is valued at around $110 trillion according to the International Monetary Fund.
The dispute arises from Google’s refusal to pay fines related to its blocking of pro-Russian channels on YouTube. A Russian court has mandated Google to restore these channels, which have been inactive since 2022, or face penalties that are doubling each week. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the lawsuit, highlighting the symbolic nature of such an enormous figure, stating that Google should not limit the operations of Russian broadcasters on its platform.
