Russia has imposed an astronomical fine on Google, claiming the tech giant owes more than 2 undecillion rubles, which translates to an unimaginable sum of $20 decillion, or around $20 billion trillion trillion. This figure is so large that it eclipses the entire global economy, which, according to the International Monetary Fund, stands at approximately $110 trillion.
The fines stem from Google’s refusal to unblock certain pro-Russian channels on YouTube, which have been restricted since 2022. In response to the situation, a Russian court has mandated that Google must restore the channels or face escalating penalties that are set to double weekly. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the enormity of the sum, remarking on its almost surreal symbolism and emphasizing that Google should not be limiting the activities of Russian broadcasters on its platform.
Despite this challenging landscape, Google, under its parent company Alphabet, reported a market value of around $2 trillion.
