Telecom Fiji Limited, alongside the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), proudly announced the successful completion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament held last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. Now in its third year, the event was a resounding success, bringing together avid golfers and community leaders, and raising an impressive $33,420—marking the highest total ever achieved.
Telecom Fiji’s commitment to supporting crucial health initiatives is evident as this year’s funds eclipsed previous years’ totals of $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022. This increase not only highlights the growing impact of the tournament but also demonstrates the generosity of its participants.
The money raised will significantly aid the Fiji Cancer Society in expanding its outreach programs, enhancing resources, and bolstering patient support services. This includes funding for essential equipment needed for cancer testing, diagnosis, and care. In a meaningful addition to the event, free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings were provided in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, underscoring the importance of early detection and proactive healthcare.
Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to support the Fiji Cancer Society, stating, “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.”
Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, reinforced the event’s importance, noting, “Cancer awareness through sports resonates deeply with many people. Every swing at this tournament represents a step toward reducing the burden of cancer in our communities. We are truly grateful for the generous support from Telecom Fiji and all our sponsors who made this event possible.”
Telecom Fiji continues to be a vital service provider in the region, offering innovative ICT solutions, while the Fiji Cancer Society plays a crucial role in advocacy and support for those affected by cancer. Their collaboration in this charity event is a testament to the positive impact of community-driven initiatives.
In a world where health challenges like cancer remain prevalent, events like this highlight the power of community involvement and support in creating meaningful change. The success of the tournament provides hope not only for future events but also for continued advancements in cancer care and awareness initiatives in Fiji.
