Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), has successfully wrapped up its annual Charity Golf Tournament, held last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. This year’s tournament, marking its third consecutive year, attracted enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, and supporters, culminating in a record fundraising total of $33,420, the highest amount achieved to date.

The support for the charity event has grown remarkably, with funds raised increasing from $19,288 in 2022 to $25,137 in 2023, demonstrating the community’s commitment to the cause. The significant contributions from participants will enable the Fiji Cancer Society to enhance its outreach programs and improve resources for patients, including the acquisition of essential equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and care. In line with the Movember initiative, the tournament also provided free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, highlighting the critical role of early detection and preventive healthcare.

Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed his appreciation for the partnership, stating, “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.”

Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the importance of the event, noting, “Cancer awareness through sports resonates deeply with many people. Every swing at this tournament represents a step toward reducing the burden of cancer in our communities.”

This annual event not only reinforces community ties but also showcases the potential of collaborative efforts in addressing critical health issues, particularly cancer, in Fiji.

Telecom Fiji continues to solidify its role as a leading telecommunications provider in the country, offering innovative ICT solutions, while the Fiji Cancer Society plays a vital role in advocating for cancer awareness and providing essential support to patients.

The ongoing success of the Charity Golf Tournament serves as a hopeful reminder of the positive impact that community engagement can have in fighting against cancer and improving the lives of those affected by it. Each year, as funds and awareness grow, the potential for better care and support for cancer patients in Fiji becomes more tangible.
