Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, claimed victory in the first-ever Sigatoka Electric Cooperate Golf amateur championship held at the picturesque Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course over the weekend. With a score of 76, Sharma secured the title after an intense playoff against Asish Chand, a teacher from Ba.
Reflecting on his performance, Sharma remarked on the challenging conditions of the course but emphasized the importance of perseverance. “It was a great outing but a bit tough out there, but I had to stick to the game,” he stated.
In the overall net category, Sumith Perera stood out with an impressive score of 67. On the women’s side, the title for the overall net was awarded to veteran golfer Susie Yee.
In the professional division, Taitusi Tuivuci emerged as the champion, scoring a par of 72, while leading Fiji Order of Merit player Tomasi Tuivuna finished just two shots behind at 74. Tuivuna expressed disappointment but acknowledged the unpredictable nature of golf, saying, “It was hard luck, I guess, but that’s what it is in the green on game day.”
Golf course manager Avinesh Datt praised the participants for their commitment to the final tournament of the year, stating it was an enjoyable event thanks to favorable weather. He expressed gratitude to the players for their participation.
Vijay Narayan, managing director of Sigatoka Electric Ltd, also expressed satisfaction with the event’s turnout and hinted at exciting plans for next year, confirming that the tournament will be “bigger and better.”
