The Indonesian ambassador to Fiji, Dupito Simamora, has called on Fijian youth to embrace golf, highlighting the numerous advantages the sport offers for health, social engagement, and future professional opportunities.

During his address at the Fiji Golf Club’s monthly medal tournament held in Vatuwaqa, Simamora, an avid golfer himself, emphasized golf as an excellent avenue for exercise and meeting new people. He reflected on his own experience starting the sport in Australia, acknowledging that while he may not have significantly improved his skills, the enjoyment of the game remains the primary goal.

Despite a light rain shower, Simamora found the conditions suitable for the tournament. He urged young Fijians to take up golf, noting that it is an affordable sport. He suggested that more tournaments should be organized to attract youth participation, promoting the competitive aspects of the game which can progress to national and even global levels.

Simamora’s encouragement is a refreshing initiative aimed at increasing youth involvement in golf across Fiji, potentially cultivating a new generation of golfers who can enjoy the sport’s benefits while also boosting community spirit.

In summary, the ambassador’s advocacy for golf presents an optimistic message: the sport can serve as a fun and valuable outlet for young people, fostering health, social connections, and potential future endeavors in the sport.
