Amitesh Chandra, President of Golf Fiji, has unveiled ambitious initiatives aimed at 2025, concentrating on elevating international representation, enhancing junior development, and increasing support for local golfers.
As part of their preparations for the esteemed World Amateur Team Championship, scheduled for October 2025 in Singapore, Golf Fiji has already commenced trials to select the top players who will represent Fiji at this significant event.
Additionally, Fijian golfers Shakil Pillay and Rajat Rai are gearing up for their inaugural appearance at the NEC Master of Amateur Golf Championship, set to take place in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2025. The organization has allocated $5,000 to support their participation, a decision that stems from the success achieved at the Asian Amateur Golf Championship in 2024.
At the grassroots level, Golf Fiji is aiming for a stronger collaboration with local clubs such as Fiji Golf Club, Ba, Lautoka, and Novotel Golf Course in Nadi. These clubs’ junior programs have shown remarkable potential, and Golf Fiji plans to continue providing necessary financial and coaching resources to cultivate young talent and promote the sport within communities.
Chandra also emphasized the significance of partnerships, expressing gratitude towards sponsors for their ongoing support in 2024 and anticipating fruitful collaborations in 2025. He indicated that such partnerships would be vital for expanding the organization’s event calendar and fulfilling its long-term objectives.
This focus on youth development and international competition positions Golf Fiji to not only uplift the sport at the local level but also to make a significant mark on the international golfing stage in the years to come, fostering a bright future for Fijian golfers.
