The future of golf in Fiji appears increasingly promising with significant advances in junior development programs. Recently, the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) contributed two sets of junior golf clubs to support the growth of young players in the sport.
These clubs have been presented to the Fiji Golf Club (FGC) in Suva, which is home to approximately 30 junior golfers involved in its foundation program. There are also other active junior programs across the country, such as Novotel in Nadi, which boasts 35 participants, while Ba and Lautoka each have around 10 young golfers engaged in their initiatives.
Amitesh Chandra, President of Golf Fiji, expressed his appreciation for FASANOC’s generosity, emphasizing the vital role of junior golf development in nurturing future talent. “Golf Fiji aims to promote golf at all levels, and the junior foundation is one way of nurturing players for the future,” he noted.
In a commendable effort to ensure accessibility for all young athletes, Golf Fiji has committed to cover the costs for junior players participating in national events. “Ba, Lautoka, Labasa, Novotel, and Fiji Golf Club are actively promoting junior golf, and Golf Fiji wants to assist all clubs where possible, depending on funding,” Chandra added.
Looking forward, 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Golf Fiji, with an extensive lineup of events planned to enhance the sport’s presence and participation. Furthermore, an upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for March to outline future plans and initiatives.
With a concerted focus on the development of young golfers and strong partnerships with stakeholders, Golf Fiji is setting the stage for the emergence of the next generation of elite golfers in the nation. This commitment not only encourages participation in sports but also fosters community engagement and youth development overall.
