GOLF Fiji is set to kick off its 2026 season with an exciting nationwide junior tournament at Novotel on January 10, extending a warm invitation to young golfers from throughout the country to participate at no cost.

The president of GOLF Fiji, Amitesh Chandra, emphasizes that this one-day event is designed to unite junior golfers and gather essential data on participation levels, which will help shape development plans for the upcoming year. “Golf Fiji will cover all entry fees and provide lunch for every junior player,” he announced, underlining the organization’s commitment to accessibility in the sport.

Chandra encourages golf clubs to send their junior members in large numbers for the event, explaining that it will paint a clearer picture of the young golfing community in Fiji. Currently, the country boasts more than 50 active junior golfers, a number that is steadily rising thanks to club-supported initiatives, especially in the Central Division.

The upcoming tournament aims to eliminate financial obstacles that often hinder junior participation in golf. “This is part of our commitment to making golf more accessible. We want children from all backgrounds to come out and enjoy the sport,” Chandra added.

Following the junior tournament, the Fiji Amateur Championship is scheduled for March, leading up to the highly anticipated Fiji Open later in the year. Chandra expresses hope that the free tournament will motivate families to introduce their children to the game. “It’s an opportunity for young players to compete in a supportive environment and experience what the sport can offer,” he remarked, emphasizing the positive impact of such initiatives on the future of golf in Fiji.

This proactive approach from GOLF Fiji signifies not only a commitment to fostering young talent but also highlights the organization’s dedication to broadening participation in the sport across diverse backgrounds.
