The Golf Fiji Amateur Championship gets underway this weekend at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, with entries for the AA Spares (Fiji) Ltd sponsored event closing today. Organisers have capped the field at 80 players for the 54‑hole stroke‑play tournament, which is open to both men’s and ladies’ divisions and is expected to draw the country’s top amateur talent.

Tournament director Rohit Chandra confirmed the field limit and said the championship will provide a stern examination of competitors’ skills on one of Fiji’s premier courses. The 54‑hole stroke‑play format places a premium on consistency, and with only 80 spots available, spots are likely to be highly sought after in the final hours before entries shut.

The event carries added incentive for the outright gross winners in both men’s and ladies’ categories. Each overall gross champion will receive free entry plus an air ticket to compete in this year’s Samoa Open, offering a pathway for Fiji’s best amateurs to test themselves at a regional level. Organisers say that opportunity is intended to help develop local players by exposing them to stronger international fields.

AA Spares (Fiji) Ltd returns as title sponsor, backing the championship at a venue widely regarded for its fair but challenging layout. Denarau’s combination of coastal breezes, manicured greens and strategically placed hazards is expected to produce tight scoring and make course management a decisive factor over the 54 holes.

A championship committee made up of Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra, James Krishna and tournament director Rohit Chandra will oversee the competition and finalise daily running arrangements. With entries closing today, the committee is preparing to publish the final field and tee times once registrations are completed.

Organisers emphasise that the tournament is open to both established names in the amateur ranks and rising players seeking exposure. With a limited field and a regional prize on offer, the Golf Fiji Amateur Championship this weekend represents a significant early‑season test for the island nation’s golfing prospects.
