Golden Jubilee Ignites Fiji Primary Schools Football IDC

The Fiji Primary Schools Football Association recently kicked off the 48th Fiji Primary Schools Inter-District Championship (IDC) during a ceremonial event held on October 24, 2025, at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa. The tournament will unfold from October 27 to 31, 2025, at Kings Charles Park in Nadi, marking a memorable occasion as it coincides with the association’s Golden Jubilee, celebrating 50 years of promoting grassroots football.

Since its inception in 1975, the FPSFA has been instrumental in nurturing and developing young football talent in Fiji, contributing to the rise of many renowned players over the years. This year’s championship is set to be particularly significant, featuring 21 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams from four regions across the country.

Avinesh Raj, a member of the association’s executive committee, emphasized the proud history and resilience of the FPSFA in his opening remarks, stating, “This year is a special celebration, our Golden Jubilee, a testament to fifty years of passion, perseverance, and purpose in developing football from the grassroots.”

Fiji FA’s CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, echoed this commitment to fostering young talent, expressing that the primary school IDC serves as an essential platform for identifying and nurturing Fiji’s future football stars. “Every talent needs a chance, every talent needs exposure, and every talent deserves to be developed,” he noted.

In support of this year’s competition, the Fiji Football Association has allocated $20,000, which includes $15,000 as a development grant and an additional $5,000 from the Youth Development Fund to specifically enhance the girl’s competition. The association extended its gratitude to all sponsors for their continued support.

As excitement builds for the tournament, the 48th IDC stands as a proud emblem of Fiji’s football future, deeply rooted in community spirit and development. The event not only showcases the skills of young athletes but also fosters camaraderie and a shared passion for the sport across the nation. This celebration of football promises to inspire the next generation, emphasizing the importance of sports in building community and character among youth.
