Golden Glove Winner Shines: Meet Fiji’s Rising Goalkeeping Star!

Nadi’s goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua has earned the Golden Glove award for his exceptional performance in the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice-Cream Battle of the Giants held in Suva. At 26 years old, Biuvanua played a crucial role in leading the Jetsetters to the tournament final, marking his first appearance for the team after transferring from Lautoka during the mid-season window.

Throughout the tournament, he conceded only three goals, all against Lautoka—one in the group stage and two in the final. Coach Raj Dayal praised Biuvanua, stating he deserves to be called up to the national team.

“He was fantastic during this tournament, putting his body on the line for the team numerous times,” Dayal noted. “He is currently the best goalkeeper in the country and should be included in the national squad.”

Dayal also mentioned that issues previously encountered in their goalkeeping department during the Fiji FACT tournament have improved since Biuvanua’s arrival, which contributed to reaching the BOG final, although they fell short in that match. He commended his players for their efforts and expressed confidence that they would achieve great results in the upcoming DPL matches and the Inter District Championship in Lautoka.
