Goalkeeping Heroics: Nadi Holds Champions Ba to Stalemate

Goalkeeper Joela Buivanua delivered an outstanding performance as Nadi secured a goalless draw against defending champions Ba in their first Group B match of the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The highly anticipated match between the leading teams did not disappoint, with both sides showcasing their skills in the closing fixture of Day 1. Ba, known for their attacking prowess, posed a threat with players Nabil Begg and Ratu Kaliova Dau creating several scoring opportunities, but Buivanua was in top form, making crucial saves to keep the scoreline intact.

In midfield, veteran player William Valentine effectively orchestrated Nadi’s play, providing support to younger players Ratu Tulivou and Eneriko Matau on multiple occasions. Teammates Siotame Kubu and Ame Votoniu also played pivotal roles, working tirelessly for the Jetsetters.

Ba’s coach, Timoci Seru, introduced young players Isimeli Gavidi, Semesa Gadele, and Penaia Nagatalevu in the final quarter to intensify their offensive efforts.

Following this match, Extra Supermarket sponsored Rewa leads Group B with 3 points, while both RC Manubhai Ba and Mahijibhai Hardware/Calgary Nadi have 1 point each, leaving Sigatoka Electric/Nadroga Auto Marine Upholstery Nadroga still searching for their first points.

In the upcoming fixtures, Ba will face Nadroga at 4 PM tomorrow, followed by Rewa taking on Nadi at 6 PM.
