Goalkeeper Joela Buivanua delivered an outstanding performance as Nadi managed to secure a goalless draw against defending champions Ba in their opening match of the Group B fixtures for the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The clash between the two western teams lived up to the hype, showcasing a strong effort from both sides in the final match of Day 1. Ba’s lineup, featuring Nabil Begg and Ratu Kaliova Dau, appeared threatening and generated multiple scoring opportunities, but Biuvanua was instrumental in thwarting their efforts with crucial saves.
Midfielder William Valentine played a vital role for Nadi, effectively managing the midfield and creating chances for younger players Ratu Tulivou and Eneriko Matau. Alongside them, Siotame Kubu and Ame Votoniu also put in significant effort for the Jetsetters.
In an attempt to boost their attack during the latter stages of the match, Ba Coach Timoci Seru introduced young players Isimeli Gavidi, Semesa Gadele, and Penaia Nagatalevu.
As a result of this match, Rewa, backed by Extra Supermarket, tops Group B with 3 points, while both RC Manubhai Ba and Mahijibhai Hardware/Calgary Nadi each have 1 point. Sigatoka Electric/Nadroga Auto Marine Upholstery remains without any points.
Tomorrow, Ba will face Nadroga at 4pm, followed by a match between Rewa and Nadi at 6pm.
