Jerome Narayan, the highly regarded goalkeeper from Sydney, has been excluded from the Bula Boys squad for the upcoming MSG Presidents Cup in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Narayan’s spot has been taken by Joela Biuvanua from Nadi, while veteran goalkeepers Simione Tamanisau and Akuila Mateisuva join the squad as well.
Narayan had played a crucial role in Fiji’s World Cup qualifying matches, appearing in all of the group games held in Suva and Port Moresby. Additionally, the squad will miss another key player, Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu, the 2024 Footballer of the Year, who is taking some time off to recover from injuries.
This development opens the door for several young players to shine on the international stage. Rising talents like Samuela Navoce, Sailasa Ratu, and Penisoni Tirau are set to gain valuable experience, alongside Nadi’s Mohammed Ayman and Labasa’s Eparama Moraica.
The MSG Prime Minister’s Cup will take place in the Solomon Islands from December 9 to 21, offering a platform for both emerging and established players to showcase their skills.
The squad includes:
Goalkeepers: Simione Tamanisau, Akuila Mateisuva, Joela Biuvanua.
Defenders: Mohammed Ayman, Ivan Kumar, Mosese Nabose, Samuela Navoce, Gabirielle Matanisiga, Filipe Baravilala, Sterling Vasconsellos.
Midfielders: Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Aporosa Yada, Setareki Hughes, Nabil Begg, Sailasa Ratu, Rahul Krishna, Merril Nand, Dave Radrigai.
Forwards: Christopher Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, Sairusi Nalabu, Thomas Dunn, Penisoni Tirau.
This transition in the squad offers a great opportunity for younger players to step up, gaining invaluable experience and potentially paving the way for future successes in Fijian football. With the stage set for these players to impress, the MSG Presidents Cup could mark the emergence of the next generation of football stars for Fiji.
