The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s is gearing up for an exciting week as international teams make their way to Fiji for the prestigious event, culminating in next Saturday’s title match. Tournament co-founder Jay Whyte has confirmed that teams, including the British Army, are en route from various parts of the world and are expected to arrive by Friday. This marks the beginning of a vibrant week filled with elite sevens rugby and community engagement activities.

Whyte noted the significance of the event, sharing, “I just saw yesterday that the British Army side is leaving Heathrow in London to fly all the way across the globe to join us here, so the teams are moving and the anticipation is building.” Organizers have arranged comprehensive support, including transport and accommodation for visiting teams, alongside outreach programs aimed at promoting rugby in local communities.

The Coral Coast 7s is not just about competition; it emphasizes the overall experience for participants and spectators alike. This year, the stakes are even higher, as the tournament features the largest prize money ever offered for a sevens event in Fiji. According to Whyte, this increase reflects the event’s commitment to its not-for-profit model, where sponsorship funds are reinvested into the tournament and its participating teams.

With free entry for fans and the promise of a competitive atmosphere, the Coral Coast 7s is poised to be one of its most engaging editions to date. The tournament kicks off next Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with live coverage available on FBC Sports. This event not only showcases top-tier rugby talent but also fosters community spirit and inclusivity, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all involved.
