Global Handwashing Day in Fiji: Ocean Soaps Donates Antibacterial Bars to Schools

The Punjas Group, through its subsidiary Ocean Soaps, underscored the significance of hand hygiene in a recent event held in Lautoka to commemorate Global Handwashing Day. This year’s theme, “Be a Handwashing Hero,” encourages individuals, particularly children, to adopt simple practices that safeguard their health and that of those around them.

Gopal Jadhav, Chief Marketing Manager of the Punjas Group, highlighted that Ocean Soaps has been a longstanding advocate of hygiene awareness and practices via its products and community outreach initiatives. He remarked, “Handwashing is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to protect our health, something Ocean Soaps has long championed.”

In a commitment to instill healthy habits, Ocean Soaps is donating hundreds of Bodyguard Antibacterial Bars to the Ministry of Health for distribution across schools in the Western Division. This initiative aligns with the group’s efforts to foster lifelong hygiene practices among children, as proper handwashing is crucial in preventing various diseases.

During his address, Jadhav emphasized that washing hands with soap significantly protects individuals and the broader community. He urged, “Let’s all make handwashing a daily habit, not just for today, but for life.” He also celebrated the Punjas Group’s 90-year legacy of serving Pacific communities, affirming the company’s dedication to initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of Fijians.

The celebration brought together students, health officials, and private sector partners to reinforce the vital message that “your health is in your hands.” This collaboration between the Punjas Group and the Ministry of Health reflects a growing partnership aimed at bolstering public health outcomes through education and practical hygiene measures.

By fostering community engagement and consistent hygiene practices, such initiatives not only address immediate health concerns but also lay the groundwork for a healthier future for Fiji.
