FASANOC has expressed its excitement following the Commonwealth Games Federation’s announcement of Glasgow as the host city for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2026, the Games will return to Glasgow twelve years after the successful event in 2014. The compact sports program will encompass ten sports across four venues within an eight-mile radius, ensuring an engaging and accessible experience for both athletes and spectators.
FASANOC CEO Vanessa Kilner shared her enthusiasm regarding Fiji’s participation: “We look forward to Fiji taking part in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This event is significant in our sporting calendar. We are eager about the opportunities it presents for our athletes and anticipate another memorable Games experience.”
Fiji has a storied history at the Commonwealth Games, highlighted by a notable bronze medal performance by Apolonia Vaivai in weightlifting at the 2014 Glasgow Games. Overall, Fiji has secured four gold medals, seven silver, and twelve bronze medals across its 17 appearances in the Commonwealth Games.
Key details about the Glasgow 2026 Games include:
• Approximately 3,000 athletes from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories will participate.
• The sports program will feature athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls, and 3×3 basketball, with integrated para-sport events.
• Over 500,000 tickets will be available, allowing fans to witness world-class competition.
FASANOC plans to send out expressions of interest to national federations to initiate the process of team selection and preparation. The organization aims to field a strong and competitive team in suitable sports.
