The Raiwaqa Flyers Touch Rugby Association is on the lookout for sponsors for the highly anticipated Gladiator Cup 2025, set to take place on September 19-20 at Albert Park. The organizing committee is encouraging both companies and individuals to contribute either financially or through goods and services to help ensure the tournament’s success and enhance grassroots rugby development within communities like Raiwaqa.

Secretary Kinijioji Damuni emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “The committee is looking for sponsors for this biggest touch tournament that will be held locally.” He expressed hope that through this initiative, the current generation will emerge as better ambassadors for the sport and for Fiji in the future.

The Gladiator Cup is expected to draw at least 10 teams across multiple categories, including Business House, Masters, Mixed Men’s, Mixed Women’s, and Mixed Under-14 teams. Competing teams will be vying for cash prizes, with the top four in each category receiving monetary rewards: $1,200 for first place, $600 for second, $350 for third, and $240 for fourth.

Damuni highlighted the significance of the tournament in the context of touch rugby’s evolution, noting that it will gain Olympic recognition in 2036. “We are trying to groom grassroots levels to be part of the Fiji Team,” he stated, addressing the long-term vision for developing local talent.

With registration set at $250 per team and closing on August 29, the event promises to foster community engagement and provide an exciting platform for showcasing local talent. This aligns with the broader trend of promoting sports tourism and community spirit observed in recent touch rugby competitions in Fiji.

Overall, the Gladiator Cup not only offers a thrilling competitive experience but also serves as a catalyst for strengthening community bonds and enhancing the future of touch rugby in Fiji. The commitment to developing local talent and engaging sponsors points to a community united by its love for sport and a brighter future for budding athletes.
