GHS Rugby Team Makes History: Underdogs Set for Semi-Finals Showdown

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has relied on self-belief as they navigate their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. Principal Iliesa Parker shared insights about the team’s progress in an interview with SUNsports.

GHS made headlines by defeating the top contenders, Ratu Kadavulevu School, with a score of 12-7 during the quarterfinal match last Saturday. “Our coaches have been focusing on key areas for improvement as we prepare for the semi-finals,” Parker noted. He expressed concern about a few players dealing with minor injuries, hoping they would recover in time for Saturday’s match.

Parker praised the team’s outstanding performance against RKS, emphasizing that this marks GHS’s inaugural appearance in a Deans semi-final, making it a historic moment for the school. He highlighted the strong support from parents, alumni, and school management as crucial for the team.

The principal acknowledged the school’s fortunate position with a competent coaching staff guiding the players. He reiterated the importance of discipline both academically and on the field, urging the players to maintain focus during their preparation. The players are excited about the opportunity to compete at the stadium for the first time, facing off against the formidable Marist team, whom they have yet to encounter this season.

“It’s an honor to play against a champion team like Marist, especially since they are the defending champions,” Parker said. He called upon all Gospel High supporters to wear the school colors of pink, white, and blue during the match. “I encourage the Gospel High fans to come out in full force to support the boys, and I wish all participating schools the best of luck in the semi-finals.”
