The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has relied on self-belief to propel them through their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. In an interview with SUNsports, GHS principal Iliesa Parker highlighted the team’s recent success, specifically their surprising 12-7 victory over the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School in the quarterfinals last Saturday.
“Our coaches have focused on several areas for improvement as we prepare for the semi-finals,” Parker remarked. He expressed concern over some players dealing with minor injuries, hoping they would recover in time for Saturday’s match.
Parker praised the noteworthy achievement of reaching the Deans semi-finals for the first time in any grade, marking a historic moment for GHS. “The support from parents, alumni, and school management has been tremendous,” he added.
He also noted the presence of a strong coaching staff leading the team. “We’ve encouraged the players to maintain discipline both in school and on the field. They understand the importance of staying focused as they prepare for the game.”
The team is looking forward to the opportunity to play against the champions, Marist, a team they have not faced this season. “It’s a privilege to compete against a champion team like Marist, who are also the defending champions,” Parker said.
He called on all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue this Saturday. “I invite Gospel High fans to come out in large numbers to support the boys, and I also wish the best of luck to all the other schools competing in the semi-finals.”
