LAUTOKA is gearing up for a vibrant celebration as the 63rd Sanatan Convention football tournament kicks off tomorrow at Churchill Park. This exciting event is expected to attract over 5,000 attendees from both Fiji and abroad, contributing to a festive atmosphere that highlights strong community involvement.

The tournament, known for its competitive spirit and community focus, will feature teams across four categories: the Open Grade with 30 teams, the Masters Grade with 12 teams, Legends with 2 teams, and for the first time, an Under-16 division which has confirmed participation from two teams. Sanatan Sports President Sanjay Ram expressed enthusiasm about this year’s additions, stating, “We are happy to introduce the U16 division this year in football and the ladies futsal, with over six teams participating.”

Participants will compete in several pools in the Open Grade category, including teams from Samabula, Nadi, Wairabetia, and Tavua among others, arranged across eight pools for a well-rounded competition format.

In addition to football, the event will also host a volleyball tournament kicking off on Sunday, alongside a golf competition scheduled at Denarau Golf Club, and a netball tournament featuring 14 teams in both Open and Masters divisions.

This year’s tournament not only emphasizes athletic skill but also fosters unity and cultural pride within the Sanatan community, making it a vital occasion for promoting sports engagement among the youth. As athletes prepare to showcase their talents, the sense of camaraderie and local spirit is expected to resonate throughout the celebrations.
