Young talents shone brightly at the 2025 Fiji Bitter Yalovata Lomaiviti 7s tournament, held at Nasau Park in Levuka over the weekend. The two-day event celebrated grassroots rugby and offered an exhilarating display of skill and teamwork.
The Village Boys team stood out as champions, clinching the title with a narrow 15-12 victory over Kava Vacalea in a gripping final match. Team captain Beniamino Ratu expressed his appreciation for his teammates’ dedication and effort throughout the tournament. He emphasized the significance of collaboration and strategic play, which played a crucial role in their success.
“I want to thank the almighty for guiding us during our journey,” Ratu stated. “I reminded the boys that from the quarter-finals to the final, we needed to work smart and together to secure our victory. I appreciate everyone’s commitment and fighting spirit that helped us achieve this win in Levuka.”
In addition to celebrating their tournament success, Ratu highlighted the promising future of one of their players, Josefa, who recently signed a rugby contract in Georgia, marking an exciting new chapter in his career.
“Josefa will be heading to Georgia next week for his rugby contract, and we congratulate him on this achievement,” Ratu said.
However, Ratu also addressed some ongoing challenges facing the team, particularly the need for sponsorship to ensure their continued development and growth. “We are seeking a sponsor to support the Village Boys team as we strive to improve,” he noted, acknowledging the critical role that financial backing plays in nurturing young sports talent.
Alongside the main event, other noteworthy results from the tournament included Axellerate Aflame Brothers claiming the U21 title with a 17-12 win over Bureta, and the Sinukakala women’s team triumphing over Tagimoucia Ranadi with a score of 20-5.
The tournament not only provided thrilling matches but also underscored the importance of fostering new talent in rugby, with hopes that community support will rally behind these aspiring athletes in their quest for excellence.
