Spread the love

Last Saturday, staff from Westpac Fiji, along with Rotarians from various clubs across Fiji, came together to distribute over 300 hampers to local families in celebration of the upcoming Diwali Festival of Light.

Westpac has partnered with Rotary since 2020, utilizing their extensive outreach to identify families in need within the community. Shane Smith, the CEO of Westpac Fiji, emphasized the bank’s commitment to community engagement, stating, “At Westpac, we believe in the power of community and giving back,” highlighting their ongoing effort to support those less fortunate during the festive season.

Each year, Westpac funds these Diwali hampers and collaborates with Rotary to coordinate the logistics of delivering them, ensuring that employees and Rotarians handle the distribution directly. This year’s initiative was organized with the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, which effectively mobilized resources through the broader Rotary Fiji network to reach families throughout the country.

As of last Saturday, 300 hampers filled with essential food items and grocery supplies were delivered to several locations, including Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, and Labasa. Neelam Sharma, President of the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, shared that the recipients expressed significant gratitude for the timely support, especially as families prepare for Diwali celebrations. She noted, “The recipients were emotional whilst receiving the hampers and appreciated the support,” conveying heartfelt thanks to Westpac for their generous sponsorship.

This act of kindness exemplifies the spirit of unity and compassion during the festival, underscoring the importance of community support.

In a summary, the collaboration between Westpac and Rotary not only serves to distribute essential resources but also fosters a sense of hope and connection within the community, especially during significant celebrations like Diwali. Such initiatives remind us of the positive impact that combined efforts can have on those in need.
