The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has raised alarms over the stagnation in advancements within I-Taukei communities, despite a series of discussions and meetings conducted in recent years.
Chairperson Ratu Viliame Seruvakula conveyed that the upcoming council session will not introduce new topics for deliberation but will instead focus on reflecting on persisting issues and understanding the lack of significant progress.
Ratu Seruvakula underscored the critical challenges facing I-Taukei communities, which include alarming rates of underachievement in educational institutions and an escalating drug abuse problem among the youth.
While the date for the next GCC meeting remains unannounced, the council’s commitment to tackling these pressing issues with a view to finding sustainable solutions is evident. This determination reflects a hopeful stance for future improvements and community engagement.
