Cooperatives in Tikina Vanuaso, located in Gau, have significantly improved their governance and management abilities following a productive three-day Cooperative Management training session at Vanuaso Village. Participants expressed a strong sense of optimism regarding the journey ahead, with promising developments expected within their cooperative structures.

Semesa Tuibua, a representative from the proposed Kaivunimoli Cooperative, indicated that the training not only met but exceeded their expectations, providing essential guidance for their initial stages. Tirisa Maibau, a member of the Miramira ni Savuralele Cooperative, highlighted the sessions’ effectiveness in clarifying the roles of members, the importance of meticulous record-keeping, and the significance of establishing robust by-laws.

District Officer for Gau, Iliseva Salabogi, commended the high level of engagement from participants, particularly from women-led groups. This enthusiasm is mirrored by the recent establishment of three new cooperatives within the district, indicating a growing movement towards cooperative business models.

Makereta Ledua, a member of the Vanuaso Women’s Cooperative, shared that the training has inspired them to take bold steps in expanding their small shop into a wholesale trading operation. Salabogi characterized the training as a crucial stride forward in bolstering the region’s cooperative framework, fostering sustainability, and enhancing community resilience.

The efforts to enhance cooperative management skills are likely to yield long-term benefits, not only for the individual cooperatives but for the entire Vanuaso community, setting a foundation for economic growth and empowerment.
