The 7s Rugby National Program Manager, Gareth Baber, has revealed that the national 7s men’s team does not yet have a captain. There are indications, however, that veteran player Jerry Tuwai may likely assume the role.

The squad travelled to France for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Baber praised Tuwai’s capabilities, noting that he not only motivates himself but also invigorates his teammates. Nonetheless, Baber said that several players could step into leadership roles in a team.

Along with Tuwai, Baber also mentioned that other players, such as Osea Kolinisau and Setefano Cakau, possess the qualities to lead by the example on the field. However, the final decision on captaincy ultimately comes down to the players’ preference.

Baber added that the team would not be focusing on scrimmaging sessions but rather on their internal dynamics, taking into consideration possible injuries by bringing a 15-member squad.
