Garbhan Coughlan, a talented forward from Ireland, is set to compete for his first Pacific Community Cup title with the Manukau All Stars at Churchill Park in Lautoka today. The 30-year-old, who has made New Zealand his home and is married to a Kiwi, has been a scoring sensation throughout the tournament, finding the net in each of Manukau’s matches.
Coughlan began the tournament with a strong performance, scoring two goals in a 3-2 loss against Lautoka on the first day. He then showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a hat-trick in a thrilling 3-2 victory over the AuFFI All Stars, followed by a goal in their 3-1 triumph over Navua. Most recently, he contributed to their success with a crucial goal in the 2-0 semifinal win over the USA All Stars.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the tournament, Coughlan said, “I feel delighted to be here in Fiji with the Manukau team. This is a special team made up of players who love the game of football and are very passionate. We are like a family and support each other both on and off the field of play.” He attributed his goal-scoring success to the teamwork and support from his teammates, emphasizing that each of his goals has come from collective effort.
Looking ahead, Coughlan is eager to find the back of the net in the final match. “My aim now is to score in the final as well and help the team win the title. I have lots of mates in the Auckland team so it will be a tough battle, but I have faith and confidence in my mates and we are looking forward to a tough and competitive final later today,” he added.
The highly anticipated grand final will kick off at 3 PM.
