Former Bula Boys Head Coach Christophe Gamel recently led MacArthur FC, based in Sydney, to victory in the Australia Cup, securing a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory FC.
In an interview, Gamel highlighted the strength of his team’s defense, emphasizing their ability to withstand pressure from formidable opponents. He praised the goalkeeper for maintaining a clean sheet and mentioned that the team effectively utilized counter-attacks to secure their win.
Gamel attributed the success to the dedication of the coaching staff and players, stating, “Most of all, the players who applied the game plan remarkably, credit to them as we were not the favorites.” He acknowledged that despite being less favored in terms of size, determination and strategy proved decisive in the game.
Looking ahead, Gamel extended his best wishes to the Bula Boys for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in Papua New Guinea. He expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “I have full faith in the team and know they will do well and win games.” Gamel hopes to see the team qualify for the World Cup, which would bring pride to Fiji.
This remarkable achievement not only underscores Gamel’s coaching ability but also shines a light on the potential of Fijian players on the international stage. As Gamel continues to inspire both his current team and the Bula Boys, there is a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s footballing future.
