The Gallagher Chiefs have enhanced their forward lineup with the addition of experienced players Brodie McAlister, a hooker from the All Blacks XV and Crusaders, and Jahrome Brown, a loose forward from the Brumbies, bringing a combined total of 90 Super Rugby caps to the team.

These two players are among only five newcomers in a squad that is largely stable, reflecting a strong foundation with many long-time members. Head Coach Clayton McMillan emphasized the importance of consistency and cohesion within the team. “Having players who have been through various experiences together allows us to create opportunities to learn and improve,” he said, highlighting the goal of progressing further in the upcoming season.

In addition to McAlister and Brown, the Gallagher Chiefs have awarded full-time Super Rugby contracts for 2025 to three promising players: Leroy Carter, who was nominated for the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year; Josh Jacomb, who is a first-five for Taranaki and the All Blacks XV; and Fiti Sa, a Taranaki lock and participant in New Zealand’s U19s. Both Carter and Jacomb are familiar with the Gallagher Chiefs setup, while Sa has been on a National Development Contract with the team for the last two years.

McMillan expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and depth, asserting that their shared experiences position them well to compete vigorously in the forthcoming season. “Our aim is to make a significant impact in the competition,” he noted.

The 38-man squad is set to convene later this month to start preparations for the upcoming season.

This news reflects a positive and hopeful outlook for the Gallagher Chiefs as they aim for success in Super Rugby. With a blend of established talent and new additions, the team is poised for a competitive season ahead.
