The Gallagher Chiefs have strengthened their forward pack with the addition of Brodie McAlister, an experienced hooker from the All Blacks XV and Crusaders, alongside loose forward Jahrome Brown from the Brumbies. Together, the duo brings a wealth of experience, totaling 90 Super Rugby caps.
These two players are part of a total of five new recruits for the Gallagher Chiefs, which maintains a largely established squad. Head Coach Clayton McMillan emphasized the significance of consistency in team selection, stating that a cohesive group can better navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
“Having players who have shared experiences, both good and bad, enables them to turn those lessons into opportunities in the new season,” McMillan said.
Additionally, several familiar faces have been awarded full-time Super Rugby contracts for 2025, including World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year nominee Leroy Carter, as well as first-five Josh Jacomb and lock Fiti Sa, who all have previous connections to the Gallagher Chiefs environment. Carter and Jacomb were part of the wider training squad, with Jacomb being promoted last season, while Sa has been under a National Development Contract with the team for the past two years.
McMillan expressed optimism about the team’s composition, highlighting its balance and depth. He believes that their combined experience sets them up well to make a strong impact in the upcoming competition.
The 38-man squad is set to come together later this month to kick off their preparations for the new season.
This news is a positive indication of the Gallagher Chiefs’ commitment to building a solid and competitive team, blending experienced players with emerging talents. This approach aims to achieve greater success in the Super Rugby season ahead.
