The Gallagher Chiefs have strengthened their forward pack by signing All Blacks XV and Crusaders hooker Brodie McAlister, along with Brumbies loose forward Jahrome Brown, both of whom bring a combined total of 90 Super Rugby caps. These additions are part of a lineup that predominantly features seasoned players who have been part of the team for several seasons.
Head Coach Clayton McMillan emphasized the importance of consistency and cohesion within the squad, stating, “Having guys that have played together for a while and experienced the highs and lows together creates opportunities in the new season.” He is optimistic about the team’s ability to translate their past experiences into a stronger performance moving forward.
In addition to these new signings, several players have received their first full-time Super Rugby contracts for 2025. Leroy Carter, a nominee for the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, first-five Josh Jacomb, and lock Fiti Sa are all familiar faces in the Gallagher Chiefs setup. Carter and Jacomb have been part of the wider training squad, while Sa has been on a National Development Contract with the team for the last two years.
McMillan expressed confidence in the squad’s balance, depth, and collective experience, suggesting they are well-prepared to make a serious impact in the upcoming competition. The 38-man squad will come together later this month to start training for the new season.
This team-building approach looks to create a positive environment that encourages growth and improvement, setting a hopeful tone as they aim for success in the upcoming season. The blend of experienced newcomers and established players could be a recipe for a competitive season ahead.
