An incident involving a GA-8 Airvan, registered as DQ-VAN, took place at the Yasawa Aerodrome on Saturday morning, December 21, 2024. The aircraft took off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM but unfortunately overshot the runway upon landing, coming to a halt just beyond the runway area.
Fortunately, the accident did not result in any injuries to the pilot or the six passengers onboard, who were all unharmed. The aircraft did sustain damage, specifically to its nose wheel and propeller.
Despite the incident, the runway at Yasawa Aerodrome remains open for operations, allowing aviation activities to proceed without interruption. In light of this event, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, has announced the appointment of an investigator to conduct a detailed examination of the accident.
