Hansel McCaig, a representative of the Tritons Swimming Club, competed in the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which commenced yesterday at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva. McCaig participated in 11 individual events and four relays. He reported a successful start to the competition, winning four individual events and a relay.

McCaig noted the significant number of young swimmers participating, viewing this trend as a positive sign for the future of swimming in Fiji. “It’s encouraging to see the younger kids coming up; it indicates that the future of swimming in Fiji is developing in the right direction,” he remarked.

He expressed a desire for more swimmers to join the sport, emphasizing the importance of fostering new talent to ensure continuity when senior swimmers retire. Additionally, he praised the young swimmers on his team for their impressive performances, attributing their success to dedicated training.

“The kids in our club are performing excellently, showcasing talent that has clearly been developed over the past months,” he stated. McCaig also highlighted how the development of younger swimmers motivates others to improve their skills: “It generates better stimulation for development, and as they improve, it inspires us to enhance our own performance, creating a win-win situation for everyone involved.”
