Noa Rauluni, a flanker for the Fiji Under-20 rugby team, views his selection as an opportunity to progress toward his primary goal of earning a spot on the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua squad. As the son of former Flying Fijians halfback Jacob Rauluni, the 19-year-old is motivated not only by personal ambition but also by a strong family legacy in rugby.
Rauluni expressed his excitement about the potential to impress selectors from the Drua and the national team, stating, “100% I’d like to be looked at by the Drua or anyone else; that would be awesome.” He has been engaging in rigorous training, including contact drills against the HPU boys, which he describes as both challenging and enjoyable. His journey in rugby saw him initially play for the Reds Under-19s before joining the Fiji Under-20 training squad.
In preparation for the forthcoming Super 20 competition in New Zealand from February 15-22, Rauluni is committed to making his mark and hopefully following in his father’s footsteps by donning the national jersey. His aspirations echo the sentiment of other young players in Fiji, such as Rafaele Tuikitai Waqalala, who have also highlighted the importance of hard work, discipline, and supportive family networks in achieving their rugby dreams.
As Fijian rugby continues to produce emerging talents, the passion and dedication of young athletes like Rauluni demonstrate a hopeful future for the sport in the nation, inspiring a new generation to pursue their dreams with vigor and determination.
