Meretinai Vaturaiyawa, a student at Nakorotubu Secondary School, has set her sights on Fiji National University (FNU) as her ideal choice for higher education, aspiring to become a nurse. During the FNU Open Day, she focused on Food Science and explored the College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Science.
The 16-year-old expressed her eagerness to understand more about the medical field and noted the presence of a health center in her village of Namarai, Nakorotubu, Ra. She highlighted the absence of local representatives working at the health center from both Namarai and her village, Veidrala, stating her ambition to serve there as a nurse in the future.
Vaturaiyawa reported that she gained insightful information during the Open Day in Nasinu, which solidified her decision to choose FNU for her tertiary education. She has been a part of the school, which was established in 2020, since she enrolled in Year Nine in 2021.
However, she faced challenges at her school this year, as there were no Biology and Chemistry teachers during the first two terms. While a Biology and Chemistry teacher joined in Term Three, the school still lacks a Home Economics teacher. Despite these setbacks, the vice-principal provides worksheets for Home Economics classes.
