Future Nurse Sets Her Sights on FNU

Meretinai Vaturaiyawa, a student from Nakorotubu Secondary School, has expressed her strong intention to pursue her tertiary education at Fiji National University (FNU) with a goal of becoming a nurse.

“I focused on Food Science during the FNU Open Day and explored the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science,” stated Vaturaiyawa. She is enthusiastic about discovering more opportunities within the medical field, especially considering that her local health center in Namarai Village, Nakorotubu, Ra, currently has no representation from her village.

“I aspire to work at the Namarai health center as a nurse one day,” she commented.

Vaturaiyawa mentioned that the information she gained at the FNU Open Day in Nasinu further solidified her decision to choose FNU as her future institution. “Our school was established in 2020, and I began Year Nine in 2021,” she added.

She also highlighted the challenges her school has faced, revealing that there were no Biology and Chemistry teachers for the first two terms this year. “We finally have a Biology and Chemistry teacher in Term Three, but there is still no Home Economics teacher,” she explained. “Our vice-principal has been providing us with worksheets for our Home Economics classes.”
