The Commanding Officer of the Third Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), Lieutenant Colonel Pio Varawa, recently addressed the closing ceremony of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Kindergarten. In his speech, Lt Col Varawa honored the essential contributions of teachers, families, and staff, stating they form the foundation for a promising future for Fiji.

Lt Col Varawa emphasized the importance of early education, asserting that while national security is vital, the most significant mission is preparing future generations. He encouraged the children, stating, “You are smart, brave, and full of potential. Keep learning and dreaming,” underscoring the critical role of parental involvement in education. He affectionately referred to teachers as “unsung heroes,” recognizing their sacrifices that have a lasting impact on students’ lives.

The officer concluded his address by quoting Nelson Mandela, stressing the need to invest in children’s education today for a better tomorrow. This event reflects a broader commitment within Fiji’s military to engage with the community, echoing sentiments from previous speeches by officials such as Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua and President Ratu Williame Katonivere, who have emphasized the pivotal importance of education and leadership within the military and society.

Lt Col Varawa’s encouraging message aligns with ongoing discussions about the vital role of education and community support in nurturing the youth of Fiji, emphasizing a hopeful vision for the future.
