Interviews for Year 13 students intending to enter teacher training programs have commenced across Fiji, a vital initiative aimed at selecting dedicated individuals to contribute to the future of education in the nation. This program has been organized in collaboration with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).

Students are reminded to attend their scheduled interviews punctually and make the most of this opportunity to start a rewarding career in education. The initial interviews took place in the Northern Division at Labasa College, where a significant number of eager students showed up, ready to demonstrate their passion for teaching.

The emphasis on the recruitment process aligns with the broader objectives outlined in the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which advocates for enhanced cooperation among educational stakeholders to ensure that graduating teachers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective teaching. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro underscored the necessity of attracting talented and passionate candidates, particularly to key areas experiencing teacher shortages like primary education, special and inclusive education, and critical subjects such as Mathematics and Science.

Encouragingly, the upcoming selection process not only aims to fill current gaps in the teaching profession but also fosters a new cadre of educators who are ready to inspire and empower the youth of Fiji. This proactive measure reflects a commitment to elevating educational standards and producing qualified educators who can make a significant impact in their communities.

With applications for scholarships closing on January 31, 2025, this initiative is a hopeful sign for the future of education in Fiji, as it focuses on bringing in enthusiastic individuals dedicated to their roles as teachers. By investing in the new generation of educators, the Ministry of Education strives to enhance the quality of education in the country, promising a brighter future for students and the education system as a whole.
