Fiji’s national futsal head coach, Jerry Sam, has expressed his commitment to scouting talent during the upcoming Extra Supermarket Futsal IDC competition, which will take place from November 13th to 16th at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. Sam plans to closely evaluate players over the course of the three-day tournament, aiming to identify potential candidates for the national team and future futsal programs.

Highlighting the competitive nature of the Futsal IDC, Sam stated that the event serves as an excellent opportunity for players to demonstrate their skills. He emphasized the significance of spotting and nurturing talent early, particularly those players who may have flown under the radar in the past.

Sam remarked, “As we all know, the Futsal IDC is always tough and competitive, and that’s exactly the environment we need to see players shine. I’m especially eager to find and develop players who might otherwise go unnoticed. For me as a head coach, I have to do my part to identify players now so that we can put them in a program for years to come.”

With eight teams competing, Sam also encouraged futsal fans to rally behind their favorite teams, fostering a supportive atmosphere throughout the tournament. This event not only offers players a chance to excel but could also help them secure spots on the international stage, showcasing Fiji’s futsal potential.

This initiative highlights the dedication of the coaching staff to enhance the future of Fijian futsal by focusing on player development and grassroots talent identification. A successful tournament could pave the way for new stars to emerge, contributing to the growth of the sport in the country.
