The Lami Legends Grants Betting Futsal tournament is set to take place from January 6-8 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, with only 14 team spots left available as the event approaches. Organized by Sheik Dean, this tournament will serve as a fundraiser for the Lami Football Club, featuring 48 teams that will compete in categories such as Premier, Masters, Veterans, and Legends.
With a total prize pool of $5,000, the funds will be distributed among the winners of the plate, cup, and bowl competitions. Dean has expressed his hope that futsal enthusiasts will participate in this exciting tournament. He noted, “This tournament will help us raise funds for the club’s participation in an over-50s competition in New Zealand next year.”
This event marks a revival of a similar tournament held in 2011 that also featured 48 teams competing over several days. Dean highlighted the growing popularity of futsal as an indoor sport, expressing enthusiasm for welcoming teams from diverse backgrounds. As the tournament nears, team draws will be announced tomorrow, heightening the excitement felt by both players and fans.
This tournament not only provides financial support for the Lami Football Club but also creates an opportunity for community engagement through sports. Such initiatives underline the importance of local sporting events in fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and healthy competition among players.
