International School Suva (ISS) showcased remarkable talent at the Extra Fiji Southern Secondary Schools Futsal Championship by entering two Under-16 teams into the competition. In a thrilling match, ISS Team A posted a convincing 4-1 victory against Gospel High School at the Fiji FA headquarters, impressing spectators with their speed and technical skills on the court.
Despite the team’s strong performance, the game was somewhat affected by sudden rain in Suva, which caused players to slip on the court surface. Nevertheless, the young athletes demonstrated their potential, executing their coach Ricky Ferrando’s instructions to build play from the back effectively. Ferrando expressed his contentment with the teams’ performances and highlighted the strategy of entering two teams aimed at providing every player with the opportunity to compete and enjoy the game.
Looking ahead, Coach Ferrando aims to address any weaknesses identified during the match to prepare for the next challenge, expressing optimism about his team’s growth and future performance.
This tournament not only fosters competition but also plays a crucial role in youth development, instilling values like teamwork and discipline. With events like the Extra Fiji Southern Secondary Schools Futsal Championship gaining popularity, they inspire young athletes and contribute positively to the sporting landscape in Fiji.
