The HLB Mann Judd Suva futsal team demonstrated resilience and determination despite an early setback in their tournament. After suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to 4R Electrical, Gabby’s Investment, and Rooster Chicken Ba Futsal during the pool rounds, the team rallied and managed to secure a spot in the finals.
In the semifinals, they showcased their competitive spirit by overcoming Nadi with a score of 4-2. The team then triumphed over Lautoka in the finals with an impressive 6-2 victory, successfully defending their championship title. Head coach Vivek Nadan praised the team’s ability to bounce back from their pool match loss, stating it was more favorable to lose early rather than in the elimination rounds.
Nadan expressed his pride in the players’ ability to regroup and deliver strong performances in the knockout stages. He shared, “Once we came to the finals, we knew it was ours.” Looking ahead, the team plans to take a break in December, with the new season set to start in January.
In addition to the men’s success, Rewa emerged victorious in the women’s division, finishing first in the points table. Both the men’s and women’s champions earned shopping vouchers worth $1,000 each from Extra Supermarket, while the runners-up received vouchers worth $500.
This event not only highlights the tenacity of the Suva futsal team but also underscores the growing popularity of futsal in the region, with both men’s and women’s divisions competing fiercely. Their achievements inspire hope for continued development in local sports, encouraging young athletes to pursue their goals enthusiastically.
